NATO repression in Serbia

On the occasion of the largest NATO Conference yet, which was held in Belgrade from 14th-16th of June, a protest was organized by the Anti-NATO campaign, in which the members of Crvena akcija and Antifa Zagreb were participating. Unlike the police-chetnik assembly organized by the extreme right, this internationalist and anti-imperialist protest of Anti-NATO campaign was brutally crushed by the police forces. Serbian police decided to, without any legal coverage, selectively determine the prohibition of an assembly to those forces for which they estimate to be a real challenge to the regime of imperialist servents.

On the assembly, which was on the spot declared “prohibited”, the regime sent strong police forces that had attacked the assembly unprovoked, beating and pushing the gathered people down the hill. During the assembly, 8 people were arrested, including one Croatian delegate. The arested, including the members of Anarho-sindikalistička inicijativa and Partija rada, were charged with unbelievable accusations. One of the participants was, by the urgent procedure, convicted to 15 days of jail for the offense of “organizing a nonregistered assembly”, which was in no way proven, and of “disturbance of public peace and order”. Others, who were convicted for the offenses of “obstructing the official person” and “attack on the official person”, were by unlawful gimmicks held in custody until the morning after. The police had, during the interrogation, openly confessed to the arrested that the reasons for qualifying the acts as offensive, and for appointing them a measure of custody, were strictly political. Servants of imperialism from the ranks of Serbian regime are not at all trying to give an impression of respecting their own legal norms when it comes to confrontation with political opponents. We will continue to fight with proletarian internationalism against imperialism and all of it’s servants.
