Three Years of Struggle
Since our last anniversary, we've continuously been working on our most import task - building a revolutionary organization. There is a need for such a collective, that will successfully encourage and support workers and peoples’ resistance, and provide organizational and ideological basis for the creation of a revolutionary movement. This need was, in the past year, greater than ever before. In Croatia, as in the rest of the world, 2011 is the year off mass demonstrations and mobilization against the system, in which we tried to, considering our capabilities, engage as actively as we could.
This year we continued with our attempts to help workers in their struggle against the employers as well as state authorities. We helped in demonstrations as well as at their working places. Here we particularly emphasize the Đuro Đaković Atlantica, Uljara Čepin oil mill, Osječka pivovara brewery and Dalmacijavino. Furthermore, we actively supported a number of journalist struggles, especially those of Glas Istre and Večernji list. We also continued to engage in struggles at the university, both those of students and academic workers. During the period of increased combativeness among the masses, we constantly warned about the increase of the state repression and police violence, especially on the streets, in prisons and “correction facilities”, but on the internet as well. This violence has, in the end, culminated with a disgusting murder of 18 years old Ivan Mamić done by the police.
While our ruling class reinforces the violence towards its own people, at the same time it participates in imperialist slaughters serving the capital, against what we reacted more than one time. We also participated in the struggle against NATO spreading throughout the region, especially in the demonstrations in Belgrade, when we endure even a police attack. It was specifically important for us to maintain an ideological struggle against delusions of national-chauvinism and liberalism, as well as fascist tendencies in Europe, and support struggle of the revolutionary movement across the world as actively as we could. However, most important events are linked with people’s mass demonstrations which started in Tunisia and Egypt, where they’ve overthrown the regimes that had been ruling for decades. We persistently stressed how, contrary to the claims of the media owned by the capital, they are social, directly democratic and anti-imperialistic demonstrations that didn’t only criticize corruption, but the functioning of the system in general. That was confirmed when very similar demonstrations again occurred in so-called democratic countries of Spain, Greece, the United Kingdom and the USA. What’s most important is that mutiny occurred even in Croatia, where thousands of people marched through cities attacking the symbols of the system and the regime which came to the point of complete political bankruptcy. In these events, we took upon ourselves the goal of defending the movement from police provocateurs, and reinforcement of anti-system and combative components of these demonstrations. Spontaneous blowout of these demonstrations, not only in Croatia, is a consequence of incapability to move to the next phase of struggle, which implies direct conflict with the regime, with the goal of its overthrowing. To help moving to the next phase, an organization is needed, like the one we are trying to build. Through all temptations we came across in the past year, we are even more convinced of the need for such an organization. We wish for such temptations to be even more numerous next year. The struggle continues...
